Kalu Rinpoche | Pure Joy

People have this assumption that pure joy is being next to the master all the time, constantly. That is not pure joy.
Being promoted and praised by the master in front of the public, that is not pure joy.
Almost discovering yourself as a teacher and having students does not define the pure joy.Seeing yourself unique among other people, that is also not pure joy.

Receiving so many teachings and empowerments and being proud of that is also not pure joy.

Building a lot of big temples and structures and claiming your part in those projects, is not pure joy.

Doing the three-year retreat many times and being proud of that is also not pure joy.

So what is the pure joy?

Pure joy is being present in this very moment and being simply grateful for the teachings that you have received.

Therefore you are grateful not by any projection of your mind but grateful in this very moment and meditating in that state of mind.

That is pure joy.
